F-16 crashes during routine training Published Dec. 10, 2023 8th Fighter Wing Public Affairs KUNSAN AIR BASE, Republic of Korea -- An F-16 Fighting Falcon assigned to the 8th Fighter Wing experienced an in-flight emergency over the Yellow Sea at approximately 8:43 a.m. Dec. 11, 2023. The pilot ejected the aircraft. The pilot has been recovered by Republic of Korea Maritime Forces, awake and in stable condition. He is being returned to Kunsan Air Base where he will be evaluated further. The name of the pilot will not be released nor will additional details regarding his condition. “We are grateful for the safe recovery of our Airman by our ROK Allies and that the pilot is in good condition,” said Col. Matthew C. Gaetke, 8th FW commander. The cause of the in-flight emergency is currently under investigation. Further details regarding the incident will not be made available until the investigation concludes.
