Republic of Korea Air Force and Gwangju City fire fighters responded to a fire in a U.S. Air Force facility located on Gwangju Air Base, ROK, after it was reported at 11:05 a.m.

The fire has been extinguished and all members of the 607th Materiel Maintenance Squadron assigned to Gwangju AB have been accounted for with no injuries.

“We’re extremely thankful for the Republic of Korea Air Force and Gwangju City fire fighters on-scene today who responded quickly and fought the fire,” said Maj. Rachel Buitrago, 7th Air Force spokesperson. “It’s due to the rapid reaction and leadership of the ROKAF and 607th MSS, and Gwangju City officials, that there were no injuries from this event.”

The building houses the Morale, Welfare, and Recreation program of the 607th MMS. The squadron, under the 607th Air Support Operations Group, ensures the readiness or infrastructure, material, and assets across the 7th AF co-located operating bases on the Korean peninsula.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. No additional information will be provided until the conclusion of the investigation.
