Unit: 607th Weather Squadron, Detachment 1

Job title: Weather Forecaster

Job description and its impact on the overall mission: I am responsible for deploying w/2nd Infantry Division (2ID) exercising contingency and wartime procedures in the Korean Theater of Operations. As a member of the most forward-deployed weather team in the Republic of Korea my job is to interpret numerous weather features; which get incorporated into the production of our daily weather briefings. The 2ID Command Staff and subordinate units inside of Area I utilize these products to make informed decision on both training and real-world missions. One of my most gratifying duties is to develop and issue Mission Execution Forecasts in support of the Army's Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS).

Time in the military: 4.5 years

Time at Korea: 8 months

Family: Wife-Jen Daughter-Madilyn

Hobbies: Golf, guitar, working out, and motorcycles

Why did you join the military? I joined the military because while growing up I envied the camaraderie I saw between military personnel. Also, I feel like it is my duty to serve my country and protect the freedoms my family and I enjoy.

Where do you see yourself in 10 or 20 years? In 10 years, I see myself as an NCOIC of a weather flight. Off duty, I will have my Masters degree and will be prepared for the transition to civilian life when I retire after 20 years.

What do you do for fun here? I love working out and playing golf outside when the weather is nice. I have enjoyed the opportunity to experience Korean culture through their architecture as well as traditional and nontraditional foods. Unfortunately I have been limited in time as I am currently enrolled in 12 semester hours of college.

What's your favorite Air Force memory or story? My favorite memory was when I learned how to snowboard while here in Korea. I was able to get the hang of it my first time out and I fell in love with it instantly. At home that evening, I ordered a bunch of boarding equipment and I have been out many times since.

What accomplishment are you most proud of? I have two. First, is being handpicked and getting coined by the 1-star Assistant Division Commander for my role in the success of the annual UFG exercise. Second, completing the Army Combatives course; this I find gratifying since most USAF personnel will never have the opportunity to attend the course.

Who are your role models? My mother and father, for without them I would not be here.
