Jacob Borton, 7th Air Force intelligence exercise planner, and Senior Airman Chelsea Whitworth, 607th Air Operations Center target development analyst, were selected for and participated in the 39th annual USO Six Star Salute April 8-9. They were awarded $1,000 each in educational scholarships from the USO. Staff Sgt. Borton is currently pursuing intelligence studies at the American Military University. He plans on pursuing a master's degree in international relations. "Active-duty military tuition assistance covers 75 percent of graduate school leaving a shortfall of $6,000," said Staff Sgt. Borton. The scholarship will help him in defraying educational expenses. "Despite heavy academic and mission requirements, (Staff Sgt.Borton) finds time to perform a wide array of volunteer work in support of the Good Neighbor Program. His continuous and broad involvement in language tutoring is a wonderful example of his selflessness," said Col. Michael Gibson, 7th Air Force Director of Intelligence. Senior Airman Whitworth is finishing her baccalaureate in foreign relations from the University of Maryland. She would like to continue in graduate studies and apply for Officer Training School. "I am driven to make both our military and local communities a better place. I volunteered over 300 hours to community functions and military events." "She continuously leads her peers in duty and community involvement, representing the Osan Junior Enlisted council at local orphanages and at base events. A proven leader, humanitarian and civic-minded individual, (Senior Airman Whitworth's) on-duty educational and community achievements have been significant" said Col. John Marselus, 607th Air Operation Center commander. The USO Six Star Salute honored 80 outstanding US and Republic of Korea service members. The two-day program included tours of historical and cultural sites and an awards banquet.
