Seventh Air Force Earns 2008 Air Force Outstanding Unit Award Published March 13, 2009 By Lt. Col. Carrol (Howie) Chandler announced today, that men and women assigned to Seventh Air Force have earned the 2008 Air Force unit award. More than 1,500 service members assigned to 7 AF during the period Oct. 1, 2006 - Sept. 30, 2008 are eligible for the award and have yet another reason to be proud of their contribution to the Republic of Korea-United States alliance. "The men and women of 7th Air Force are privileged to serve in Korea as a key part of a proud and powerful joint/combined team," said Lt. Gen. Jeffrey A. Remington commander 7th Air Force and Air Component Command. "The mission of 7th Air Force is exciting, challenging and clear - deter, protect and defend the Republic of Korea from attack from North Korea. We are honored to serve with this privileged group of professionals who are truly deserving of this recognition. It represents 'their' hard work and commitment to the ROK-U.S. alliance." Seventh Air Force is the oldest U.S. numbered Air Force and provides "ready to fight tonight" air power - precise, intense, and overwhelming; whenever and wherever needed. The decoration, which was created in 1954, is awarded as a ribbon to any command of the U.S. Air Force which performs exceptionally meritorious service, accomplishes specific acts of outstanding achievement, excels in combat operations against an armed enemy of the United States, or conducts with distinction military operations involving conflict with, or exposure to, a hostile action by any opposing foreign force. All Airmen serving under their respective commands during these periods will qualify for the award ribbon. Qualifying Airmen will receive the ribbon after records have been updated and permission granted for them to wear it on their uniform.
