Osan Airman awarded for heroism Published Oct. 21, 2007 7th Air Force Public Affairs OSAN AIR BASE, Republic of Korea -- U.S. Air Force Major Peter A. Selkey distinguished himself by an act of courage at United States Anny Garrison-Humphries, Republic of Korea, on 5 August 2007. By his prompt action and humanitarian regard to his fellowman, Major Selkey received the Air Force Commendation Medal. While off duty, Major Selkey noticed a young girl crying and pointing while the on-duty lifeguard rushed toward two submerged figures in the deep end of the large pool. Without hesitation, Major Selkey immediately dove into the water and swam to the nearest child, reaching a young boy at approximately the same time that the lifeguard reached the boy's sister. Saving precious seconds, Major Selkey rapidly lifted the unconscious child from the bottom of the pool and moved him up onto the deck where cardiopulmonaryresuscitation was immediately performed. Both children were eventually revived to full consciousness and returned to good health. Major Selkey's courage and selflessness brought great honor to Seventh Air Force and served to further strengthen the Republic of Korea-United States alliance.
