Critical Days of Summer 2013 ends with drop in mishaps Published Sept. 23, 2013 By Senior Master Sgt. Troy Mueller 7th Air Force Safety Office OSAN AIR BASE, Republic of Korea -- The Air Force Safety Center's "Critical Days of Summer" safety campaign ended Sept. 3 with a measurable reduction in safety mishaps. The slogan for this year's safety season, which began May 24, was "Safe and sound all year around." Seventh Air Force experienced a 28 percent drop in reportable mishaps this season compared to last year and no serious injuries. The campaign was developed to raise awareness of safety hazards during the summer season. The Air Force traditionally experiences higher mishap rates during the summer months. The effort helps Airmen mitigate those hazards and emphasizes safety's role in everything Airmen do, both on- and off-duty. This year's goal was mishap reduction through awareness, and this year's success can be attributed to several factors, primarily simple hazard awareness. Mishap prevention information was provided via AFN, newspapers, commanders channel announcements and e-mail reminders. Previous experience has shown that if someone is aware of hazards they are less likely to take unnecessary risks. Although the 2013 CDOS campaign has ended, Safety representatives are continuing to emphasize the importance of vigilance as we move into fall and winter. Safety officials are asking Airmen to continue showing safety awareness, look out for one another and take the time to minimize risks. For more information, call the 7 AF Safety Office at 784-2473.
