Turumi Lodge competes for AF award

OSAN AIR BASE, Republic of Korea --  Where do servicemembers come to receive "Star Treatment"? Here at Turumi Lodge!

Already selected as the best in Pacific Air Forces, Turumi Lodge will compete for the Air Force Innkeeper Award. This is an annual Air Force-wide award presented to lodging operations that provide the most outstanding hotel-type lodging and customer service to Air Force travelers.

"We are ready, excited and going to have fun when the Innkeeper inspection team arrives," said Ms. Constance Roderick, Turumi Lodge general manager. "My staff is a strong team and that is what it takes to win."

Besides the ever-present teamwork, Turumi Lodge has many top-notch programs to show the inspection team. For example, loan kits available at the front desk allow guests to borrow an array of items, ranging from televisions to soap, when their personal goods are unavailable to them.

The new breakroom also demonstrates a strong emphasis on employee satisfaction. Converted from a storage closet, the employee breakroom features a massage chair and flat-screen television for the staff during their downtime.

With 363 guest rooms, 16 of which are suites, Turumi Lodge will compete in the large facility category. Every lodging facility in the competition has a theme for the 3-person inspection team. Turumi Lodge's theme will be "Old Hollywood- Where Guests Come to Receive the Star Treatment."

To set the stage, a red carpet will trail the entrance and lobby. Volunteers will add character, working the red carpet in glamorous dresses and suits as fans take their pictures with instant cameras.

"We have done all the hard work to get into the Innkeeper competition," said Ms. Roderick. "Now the fun part begins and we will show the inspection team why we are the winners."

The other competitors in the Innkeeper Award large category include Vandenberg, Davis-Monthan, Wright-Patterson and Randolph Air Force Bases, Minnesota/St. Paul Air Reserve Base and last year's large base winner, Incirlick AB, Turkey. The inspection team will visit July 8-11.
