Osan SVS aims to be 'Best in AF'

OSAN AIR BASE, Republic of Korea --  The 51st Services Squadron food service operation will get a chance to show they're the best when the John L. Hennessy Award team visits Osan Sunday through Feb. 16.

The John L. Hennessy trophy is an annual award presented to the Air Force installation, in single and multiple categories, having the best food service program in the Air Force, said Master Sgt. Alan Lis, 51st SVS. Osan is competing in the multiple-category level.

"The award is based on the entire scope of an installation's food service program," said Master Sgt. Lis. "This means exhibiting excellence in kitchen operations, serving and dining operations, training, personnel and readiness, sanitation and repair maintenance, and management effectiveness."

Osan will compete against four other bases in the multiple-category level, including Keesler AFB, RAF Mildenhall AB, Hill AFB, Fairchild AFB and Mountain Home AFB. They have already proven themselves at the Pacific Air Forces level.

"The 51st Services Squadron took home the 2006 and 2007 Food Service Excellency Awards, affirming we are the best in PACAF," said Maj. Todd Alcott, 51st SVS commander. "The Hennessy tradition of excellence is reflected in everything we do."

Osan has three dining facilities, one flight kitchen and a carry-out facility. The services squadron also manages one of the Air Force's largest MRE accounts, valued at $1.6 million.

"Osan runs the largest military food service operation in the PACAF, serving more than 150,000 meals per month," said Major Alcott. "Whether you're in one of our comfortable facilities or in the field, we help ensure Team Osan is 'Ready to Fight Tonight!'"
