The leadership torch was passed at Seventh Air Force during a change-of-command ceremony here Dec. 19, 2014.

Lt. Gen. Terrence J. O'Shaughnessy assumed command from Lt. Gen. Jan-Marc Jouas with U.S. Forces Korea Commander Army Gen. Curtis M. Scaparrotti, and Pacific Air Forces Commander Gen. Lori Robinson presiding.

"The United States Air Force, because of this region's importance, chose the highest caliber of leader, and that's General O'Shaughnessy," said Robinson.  "'Shags' [Lt. Gen. O'Shaughnessy] is a phenomenal leader and a warfighter.  He knows what it takes to be successful and we can count on him to take the command to the next level."

O'Shaughnessy previously served as the Director for Operations, Headquarters Pacific Air Forces, Hickam Air Force Base, Hawaii.

"This is truly a dream assignment," said O'Shaughnessy. "Under General Jouas' strong leadership, Seventh Air Force and the Air Component has advanced the command priorities to be ready to fight tonight, maximized the combat capability of Korea's airpower team, strengthened the U.S./ROK alliance, and took care of our Airmen and their families."

Before relinquishing command, Jouas addressed O'Shaughnessy and the Airmen of Seventh Air Force one final time as commander and active-duty service member before he retires after more than 35 years of service.

"Since 1950 Airmen have stood side by side with the Korean people," said Jouas.  "They train hard to maintain readiness knowing that we face an adversary with significant asymmetric and unconventional capabilities that could be employed with very little warning and they do so a long way from home.  It's been my greatest honor and privilege to command these Airmen and I know it will be yours too."

O'Shaughnessy expressed his appreciation for the opportunity to lead the Airmen of Seventh Air Force.

"General Robinson, thank you so much for entrusting these Airmen to my command.  I'm truly honored and humbled to have the opportunity to serve as the commander of these incredible Airmen. To the great men and women of Seventh Air Force our mission remains the same," said O'Shaughnessy.  "I pledge to keep this all-star team that you have led on track and will build on the successes that you've enabled with your strong leadership."

As the Seventh Air Force commander, O'Shaughnessy also assumes the roles of deputy commander, United Nations Command Korea; deputy commander, U.S. Forces Korea; and commander, Air Component Command, Republic of Korea/U.S. Combined Forces Command.
