Augmented Forces from 55 installations assist in Key Resolve 2014

OSAN AIR BASE, Republic of Korea -- U.S. augmented forces from more than 55 installations are participating in the annual two week long Key Resolve here.

Key Resolve is an annual command post exercise that involves multiple services and more than 5,200 U.S. personnel working alongside nearly 10,000 Republic of Korea forces.

"This exercise allows me unique opportunities to broaden my leadership role and helps me grow and refine my management abilities, said 1st Lt. John Kulikowski, officer in charge of tent city, from the 35th Civil Engineer Squadron Misawa Air Base, Japan."

More than 500 augmented forces will be aiding the Key Resolve by providing realistic scenarios which allow the U.S. and Republic of Korea forces an opportunity to train in processing personnel and improve the theater operation performance capabilities.

"Having the augmentees participate in Key Resolve allows us an opportunity to practice training incoming personnel," said Lt. Col. Rhonda Larson, 7th Air Force director of manpower, personnel and services. "They keep us from getting rusty, improve command and control exercises and help fix mistakes that could be made if we didn't have the biannual training."

The purpose of this exercise is to master combat execution procedures in order to respond to various threats from a hostile force. The exercise will improve the theater operation command capabilities of the ROK and U.S. military and promote the establishment of a basis for the transition of the wartime operational control.

"Bringing in augmentees allows us to become proficient at training for air power and teaches us how to quickly prepare forces if they need to arrive," Larson said.
